Biographical Information[edit]

Catcher Bryan Lavastida was selected by the Cleveland Indians in the 15th round of the 2018 amateur draft. He reached the majors towards the start of the 2022 season, by which time the team was known as the Cleveland Guardians, but only played 6 games, going 1 for 12. He spent most of that season in the minors, splitting the year between AA and AAA and hitting .209 in 84 games.

He was in the Guardians system in both 2023 and 2024, again playing in AA and AAA the first year and spending all of the second in AAA, but he did not get another chance to appear in the majors. He hit .240 with 12 homers and 70 RBIs in 108 games in 2023, and .232 with 8 homers and 42 RBIs in 87 games in 2024. Following that season, he signed as a free agent with the Houston Astros, but started the season back in AA with the Corpus Christi Hooks before getting promoted to the AAA Sugar Land Space Cowboys. He hit .253 in AA and .250 in AAA in 66 games total, but was released on August 4th. A week later, he was signed by The Athletics who assigned him to their own AAA affiliate, the Las Vegas Aviators. There. his bat caught fire, and he ended the year by hitting .348 with 4 homers and 17 RBIs in 23 games. The Aviators made it to the Triple-A Baseball National Championship game on September 27th at the representatives of the Pacific Coast League. The game was played in their home ballpark, Las Vegas Ballpark, but they were the visitors against the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. Bryan was the starting first baseman for Vegas, and almost became the game's hero when he belted a three-run homer in the top of the 9th to give the Aviators, who had trailed for most of the game, a 7-6 lead heading into the bottom of the 9th. However, it was Jacob Berry of Jacksonville who stole the show, hitting a walk-off two-run homer in the bottom of the 9th for an 8-7 win.
