Biographical Information[edit]
Pitcher Brock Burke was drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the 3rd round of the 2014 amateur draft, out of a high school in Colorado. By the time he reached the majors in 2019, it was as a member of the Texas Rangers, who had acquired him the previous December in a three-team trade whose biggest names were P Emilio Pagan and IF/OF Jurickson Profar. He made 6 starts for the Rangers in his first season with the team, going 0-2, 7.43. He then did not play at all in 2020, as he spent the year recovering from an injury. He then returned to the minors in 2021, going 1-5, 5.68 for the AAA Round Rock Express.
He was a full-time reliever for the Rangers in 2022 and 2023, with 52 appearances the first year and 53 the second. There was a big discrepancy in innings however, as he logged 82 1/3 as a rookie, finishing with a 7-5 record and an excellent ERA of 1.97. 2022 did not go as well, as his ERA climbed to 4.37 in 59 2/3 innings, with a 5-3 record. He posted strong K/W ratios both seasons, however: 90/24 the first year, and 52/9 the second. He pitched twice in the 2023 Postseason during the Rangers' run to the first World Series title in franchise history, but bioth appearances were rough ones. He gave up 2 runs in a third of an inning against the Baltimore Orioles in the Division Series, and 3 runs in another third of an inning in his only World Series outing against the Arizona Diamondbacks.
Early in the 2024 season, he struggled badly, posting a 9.22 ERA in 13 games to be sent down to the minors. The Rangers had him designated for assignment in early August as they needed his roster spot, and he was claimed off waivers by the Los Angeles Angels. That turned out to be a good move for him and for L.A. as he returned to the majors to complete the season, going 2-1, 3.54 in 21 games. He followed that with another strong season for the Angels in 2025, when he went 7-1, 3.36 in a career-high 69 games. He pitched 61 2/3 innings and struck out 52 batters. Following the season, on January 15, 2026, he was traded to the Cincinnati Reds for IF Gavin Lux, who was in turn flipped to the Tampa Bay Rays in order for Los Angeles to acquire OF Josh Lowe.
Notable Achievements[edit]
- Won one World Series with the Texas Rangers in 2023
