Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Brian Wiese played in the Boston Red Sox system in 1999 and 2000, peaking at High-A.

He was originally taken by the Kansas City Royals in the 39th round of the 1995 amateur draft, but opted not to sign. He instead went to Mississippi State University, where he fashioned a solid career, hitting .412/.467/.692 with 14 home runs and 57 RBI in 1998 and .345/.440/.651 with 19 homers and 66 RBI in 1999. In 1998, he set the team record with 103 hits, but that was broken by Adam Frazier, who had 107 in 2013. After being taken by the Red Sox in the 10th round of the 1999 amateur draft, a couple picks after pitcher Fernando Cabrera and in the same round as future All-Star Marlon Byrd, he inked a contract.

In 1999, he hit .224/.335/.381 with 5 home runs and 20 RBI in 44 games between the Lowell Spinners and Augusta GreenJackets, then he batted .279/.365/.461 with 7 home runs and 22 RBI in 50 games for the Sarasota Red Sox in 2000. Overall, he hit .253/.351/.423 with 12 home runs and 42 RBI in 94 games.
