Biographical Information[edit]
Brandan Bidois pitched for the Australian junior national team before reaching the majors with the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2026.
He beat China's Wei Zhao and Japan's Sota Asada in the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup, posting a 1.38 ERA. His .100 opponent average was 3rd in the event and only Alejandro Rosario got more wins. He was signed by the Pirates and scout Tony Harris on September 21, 2019. His road to the majors was delayed by the COVID-19 pandemic. which wiped out the 2020 minor league season, and by an injury that cost him all of the 2022 season. He still managed to make it to AAA in 2024, albeit for just one game with the Indianapolis Indians. In 2025, he emerged as a top prospect when he put together an 18-inning hitless streak from late July to mid-September between the AA Altoona Curve and Indianapolis. He made 40 appearances, all in relief, spread out among four different levels that year, going 8-0, 0.74 with 7 saves and was added to the Bucs' 40-man roster after the season.
He started 2026 at Indianapolis, going 3-2, 7.20 in his first 15 games. The back end of the bullpen was struggling in the majors, though. He was called up to Pittsburgh on May 12th (to replace Cam Sanders) and made his big league debut the next day, allowing a solo homer to TJ Rumfield of the Colorado Rockies in one inning of work in a 10-4 loss. He was the first Australian to pitch for the Pirates.
His brother Nicholas Bidois played briefly in the minor leagues.
