Biographical Information[edit]

Billy Martin played in the minor leagues and in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Martin was drafted by the New York Mets in the 34th round of the 1998 Amateur Draft, and he hit .308/.385/.495 with 7 homers for the Kingsport Mets in his first season. He played 64 games with a .236/.324/.441 batting line for the Capital City Bombers in 1999, and he went to the Arizona Diamondbacks system. Martin crushed 25 homers with a .280/.410/.542 batting line for the South Bend Silver Hawks in 2000, and he extended his solid performance in 2001 as he blasted 26 homers with a .299/.420/.551 batting line for the Lancaster JetHawks in 2001. He also went 3-for-17 with the El Paso Diablos in '01, but he slumped to .216/.301/.356 in 2002. Martin bounced back soon in 2003 as his batting line was .350/.441/.519 in El Paso, and he recorded a .346/.408/.648 batting line with 12 homers for the AAA Tucson Sidewinders. The Yakult Swallows then signed him, and he hit .241/.363/.414 with 6 homers in 71 games in 2004. Martin signed with the Washington Nationals in 2005, and he was 6-for-16 with the Potomac Nationals and 5-for-22 with the Harrisburg Senators. He announced his retirement after the 2006 season.

Overall, Martin hit .285/.387/.507 with 564 hits and 89 homers in 7 seasons in the minor leagues.
