Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Krieg played four seasons in the majors, appearing in all three major leagues of the time. He played at least 20 games at each of catcher, first base and left field. As a hitter his best year was 1886, when (in 27 games) he slugged .408 on a team which slugged .285. He also had a long minor league career and managed several times in the minors. He also umpired in the minors and in one National League game in 1887.

Krieg was born before the Civil War in Petersburg, IL, in the center of the state near Springfield. Charlie Comiskey was born the same year in the same state.

Krieg's long minor league career took him to numerous stops in the Midwest and the East, but rarely to the South. In 1905 it was reported that he had retired and was in business in his home town of Chillicothe, IL.
