Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Ben Malgeri was named the Most Outstanding Player of the 2021 Colonial Athletic Association Tournament while playing for Northeastern University. He was drafted by the Detroit Tigers in the 18th round of the 2021 amateur draft. He started his pro career that summer with a couple of games for the FCL Tigers before being promoted to the Lakeland Flying Tigers of the Low-A Southeast where he batted .266 in 40 games.

He moved up the ranks of the Tigers system over the next three seasons, reaching AA in 2023 and spending a full season there with the Erie SeaWolves in 2024. He did not hit particularly well during that span in spite of plenty of playing time, with seasons of .236, .238 and .253, although his power was slowly increasing. He had a better season in 2025 with Erie, where he hit .279 in 74 games, before starting 2026 in AAA with the Toledo Mud Hens. He continued his steady improvement, batting .296 in his first 65 games, with an OBP of .401 and a slugging percentage of .496. That earned him a first call-up to the Motor City on June 23rd. He made his debut that day, starting in right field and batting ninth against the New York Yankees. It was a good debut as he went 2 for 3 with a runs scored in a 4-3 loss. His first career hit came off veteran starting pitcher Carlos Rodón.
