Biographical Information[edit]

The father of Bruce Hines, Ben Hines was NAIA coach of the year in 1977 with the University of La Verne. While coaching there, he is credited with turning Dan Quisenberry into a submarine pitcher.

Ben also coached linebackers at the University of La Verne. He coached for the United States in the 1978 Amateur World Series. He managed the Alaska Goldpanners from 1978 to 1982 and was an assistant coach at Arizona State University in 1981-1982 and a minor league hitting instructor for the California Angels in 1983. Hines was member of the Seattle Mariners big league coaching staff in 1984. He was then a coach for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 1985 and 1986, Albuquerque Dukes in 1987, and LA again from 1988 to 1993. He was then a member of the Houston Astros staff in 1994.
