Finlay debuted professionally with the Jamestown Braves, hitting .298/~.387/.478. His 6 sacrifice flies tied for the New York-Penn League lead and he made the NYPL All-Star team in the outfield. In 1968, Andrew was on the Shreveport Braves and batted .261/~.336/.365. He stole 21 bases in 25 tries.
In 1969, Finlay only hit .211/~.286/.351 for Shreveport in 35 games. He was then traded by Atlanta with Walt Hriniak and Van Kelly to the San Diego Padres for Tony Gonzalez. Assigned to the Key West Padres, Andy slipped further, with a .155/~.252/.190 line in 40 games.
Finlay spent his last two seasons with the Lodi Padres. He batted .208/~.311/.321 in 83 games in 1970 and .257/~.335/.439 in 76 contests the next year.
