Biographical Information

Allan Matson played for Team USA and in the minors.

He went to the 1968 College World Series with St. John's. The Philadelphia Phillies took him in the 8th round of the 1969 amateur draft, one pick before Rick Burleson, but he did not sign. He hit .333 with nine RBI for the US when they won Silver in the 1969 Amateur World Series. The Phillies then took him in the first round of the 1970 January Amateur Draft, one selection before Mike Reinbach. He split the summer between the Spartanburg Phillies (.322/.387/.506 in 94 G, though he fielded .909 in the outfield) and Peninsula Phillies (.242/.306/.394 in 11 G). He was 7th in the Phillies chain that summer with 22 doubles. He tied Kevin Casey for 7th in the Western Carolinas League in two-baggers and would've been second to George Hodge in average if he had qualified, but he tied Wayne Danson for the most outfield errors, 14. Back with Peninsula in 1971, he slipped to .223/.291/.328 to end his pro career.
