Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Zak Kent was originally drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 9th round of the 2019 amateur draft out of Virginia Military Institute. He pitched in the Rangers' system until the end of the 2023 season, making it to AAA in both 2022 and 2023. At the end of spring training in 2024, he was purchased by the Cleveland Guardians when the Rangers needed to clear a spot on their 40-man roster, but he was designated for assignment at the end of June and briefly released a few days later after pitching poorly for the Columbus Clippers, where his ERA was 7.23 in 14 games. It turned out he was pitching injured, and the Guardians re-signed him a couple of weeks later and placed him on the injured list where he remained until being assigned to the Arizona Fall League in late September. He did well there, going 3-0, 3.78 in 5 games.

In 2025, he started the season back at Columbus and was 0-1, 2.35 in 5 games when he was called up to Cleveland on April 21st. He made his big league debut two days later, pitching 3 innings in relief in a 5-1 loss to the New York Yankees.
