Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Zach Cole was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 10th round of the 2022 amateur draft from Ball State University, where he led all NCAA Division I players with 9 triples in his final season. He made his professional debut that same year.
He played for two different minor league teams in his first four seasons as a professional; in three of those years, the move was the result of a promotion, but in 2024 he made a rehabilitation stint in the Arizona Complex League while spending the bulk of the season in AA with the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Texas League. In 2025, he played another 82 games with Corpus Christi, hitting .267 with 14 homers and 49 RBIs, then was promoted to the AAA Sugar Land Space Cowboys at the end of August. He quickly went on a torrid streak, hitting .353 and slugging .745 in 15 games to earn a promotion to the Show.
Zach had a memorable major league debut with Houston on September 12, 2025. Starting in left field against the Atlanta Braves, he homered on the first pitch he saw in the 3rd inning, off Hurston Waldrep, then followed that with two RBI singles before finally making an out when he struck out in the 7th. Still, his four RBIs led the Astros to an 11-3 win that kept them in a tie with the Seattle Mariners atop the AL West standings.
