Biographical Information[edit]
Yuto Furuya was drafted by the Softbank Hawks in the 2nd round of the 2016 NPB draft; the scout was Kazuhide Sakuyama. He spent his first three seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues, and he became the first Japanese southpaw to reach 160 km/h (99.4 mph), doing so on May 5 in an exhibition game against the Kagawa Olive Guyners. Furuya debuted against the Nippon Ham Fighters on July 5, 2020, and he had a solid 2.03 ERA in 13 relief outings in 2021. However, Furuya was accused of stealing a teammate's stuff after that season, and the Hawks fired him immediately. His cousin Keito Matsuura also pitched in NPB.
