Biographical Information[edit]
Yutaka Okada signed with the Hankyu Braves in 1956, and he went 2-for-9 in his first season. He was hitless in 12 at-bats in 19597, and he had a 5-for-41 record in 1958. Okada hit .278/.330/.333 in a career-high 49 games as a third-string catcher in 1960, and he slumped to .154/.267/.192 in 1961. Okada announced his retirement after that season, and he became an umpire of the Pacific League. He was the first PL umpire to work 3,000 games, and he worked 3,243 games in his 32 year umpire career. He was 8th in games in NPB history, between Tadayuki Inoue and Noriyuki Fujimoto. Okada also worked 4 All-Star Games (1968, 1972, 1976, 1980) and 8 Nippon Series (1970, 1973, 1974, 1975, 1977, 1979, 1980, 1981).
