Biographical Information[edit]

Yushi Shimizu has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Shimizu was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 2nd round of the 2014 NPB draft, and he only got 10 at-bats combined for the big club in his first two seasons. He appeared in the 2016 Nippon Series Game 1 as a backup of Tomoya Ichikawa, and the Fighters beat the Hiroshima Carp in 6 games. Shimizu played 61 games with a .198/.231/.261 as the backup catcher behind Shota Ono in 2017, and he hit .215/.288/.355 in 86 games as a backup of Shinya Tsuruoka in 2018. The Fighters named him their starter in 2019, and Shimizu recorded a .259/.321/.366 batting line in 98 games. He slumped to .193/.234/.311 and allowed a Central League-leading 63 steals in 2021, and he had a .206/.294/.290 batting line in 100 games in 2021. However, he lost his spot after Shingo Usami shined in 2022, and he only played 30 games with a .194/.219/.210 batting line. Shimizu went 13-for-50 in 2023, and he was 2-for-14 in 2024.
