Biographical Information[edit]
Yukio Shimada played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Shimada signed with the Taiyo Whales in 1959, and he hit .241/.291/.354 with 5 triples in his first season. He then hit .248/.321/.455 in 72 games in 1960, and he went 1-for-8 in the 1960 Nippon Series; the Whales swept the Daimai Orions. Shimada then crushed 8 homers with a .240/.282/.357 batting line in 1961, and he batted .247/.275/.357 in 103 games in 1962. Shimada played 119 games with a career-high 17 doubles and a .268/.306/.348 batting line in 1963, and his batting line fell to .220/.284/.341 in 1964. He went 3-for-31 in 1965, and he was released. Shimada signed with the Chunichi Dragons, but he was 2-for-15 in 1966 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Shimada hit .242/.282/.352 with 332 hits and 27 homers in 8 seasons in NPB.
