Biographical Information

Yuji Shimada played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Shimada signed with the Toei Flyers in 1957, and he went 7-for-31 in his first season. He then played 77 games with a .265/.328/.409 batting line as Toei's starting leftfielder in 1958, and he recorded a .239/.271/.433 batting line in 1959. Shimada played 60 games with a .235/.309/.329 batting line in 1960, then he hit .241/.337/.373 in 1961. He was 17-for-66 in 1962, and he went 0-for-4 in the 1962 Nippon Series; the Flyers beat the Hanshin Tigers in 7 games. Shimada crushed a career-high 4 homers with a .211/.296/.345 batting line in 1963, and he batted .267/.389/.280 as Toei's main pinch-hitter in 1964. He only got an at-bat in 1965, and he was released. The Yomiuri Giants picked him up, but was 4-for-21 in 1966 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Shimada hit .242/.324/.358 with 198 hits and 16 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
