Biographical Information[edit]
Yuji Kurohara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Kurohara was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the 4th round of the 1978 NPB draft, and he spent his first four seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He had a 2.70 ERA in 5 games in 1983, and he pitched 18 games with a 5.27 ERA in 1984. Kurohara was sent back to the minors again, and he only got 15 appearances combined with the big club in the next three seasons. He recorded a 3.42 ERA in 33 games in 1988, and he pitched 1/3 of a shutout inning in the 1988 Nippon Series Game 5. The Lions beat the Chunichi Dragons in 5 games. However, Kurohara only got 5 more appearances before he announced his retirement in 1990. He held the Western League record for 212 career appearances until Takashi Kashiwada broke it in 2002.
Overall, Kurohara was 3-1 with a 4.61 ERA, struck out 65 and pitched 140 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
