Biographical Information[edit]
Yuichiro Mukae played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 13 years.
Mukae was drafted by the Orix BlueWave in the 3rd round of the 1999 NPB draft, and he spent his first four seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 16 at-bats combined for the big club. Mukae hit .293 with 20 doubles in the minors in 2003, and he was 2nd in doubles in the Western League. He played 44 games with a .267/.305/.456 batting line in 2004, and he stayed with the Orix Buffaloes after the BlueWave merged with the Kintetsu Buffaloes. Mukae only played 7 games for the top team in 2005, and he went 3-for-30 in 2006. He had a 7-for-38 record in 2007, and he shined in the minors. Mukae hit .342 with 14 homers, and he won the Triple Crown.
The Saga native was 9-for 68 in 2008, but he only got 7 at-bats in 2009. The Buffaloes then traded him with cash to the Hiroshima Carp for Masayuki Hasegawa and Go Kida, and he was 4-for-30 with his new team. Mukae had a 3-for-15 record in 2011, then he played 55 games with a .227/.291/.305 batting line in 2012. He hit .217/.262/.300 in 42 games in 2013, but he only played 4 games in 2014 and he announced his retirement. Mukae was the batting coach for the Carp from 2016 to 2023.
Overall, Mukae hit .196/.251/.284 with 100 hits and 10 homers in 13 seasons in NPB.
