Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshitaka Shinya was drafted by the Lotte Orions in the 6th round of the 1972 NPB draft, and he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first six seasons; he only got 9 at-bats for the top team. Shinya hit .194/.229/.239 in 43 games in 1979, and he returned to the minors in 1980. He then had a .188/.224/.281 batting line in 1981, and he played a career-high 70 games with a .256/.328/.408 batting line in 1982; he was their #5 outfielder that year. Shinya slumped to .170/.223/.227 in 1983, and the Orions traded him with Mitsunori Kakehata to the Taiyo Whales for Kazuhiko Migita and Toru Takenouchi. He didn't reach the big club in 1984, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Shinya hit .216/.274/.321 with 95 hits and 6 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
