Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshiaki Kushiro played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Kushiro signed with the Hanshin Tigers in 1961, and he mainly stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first six seasons; he only got 22 at-bats for the top team. He led the Western League in RBI and homers in 1967, but he still didn't get many chances and he went to the Sankei Atoms in 1968. Kushiro had a .185/.185/.296 batting line that season, and he recorded a .182/.272/.256 batting line in 66 games as the backup catcher behind Toshio Kato in 1969. When Kato missed some time due to driving without a license in 1970, Kushiro shared the starting catcher spot with Akihiko Oya and he hit .202/.275/.328 in 67 games. He was 2-for-18 in 1971, and he only got 15 more at-bats before announced his retirement in 1976. Kushiro later became the battery coach for Yakult from 1977 to 1979, for the Hanshin Tigers minors team from 1980 to 1982 and for the Seibu Lions from 1984 to 1985.

Overall, Kushiro hit .205/.271/.304 with 66 hits in 11 seasons in NPB.
