Biographical Information[edit]

Yojiro Miyamoto played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Miyamoto was involved in a traffic accident on July 9, 1961, and he almost went blind in his left eye due to the impact. He miraculously returned and had a 17-18 record with a 2.31 ERA in his college career. The Yomiuri Giants signed him in 1965, and his ERA was 4.95 in 7 appearances in his first season. He recorded a 2.04 ERA in 22 games in 1966, and the Giants traded him to the Hiroshima Carp for Katsuya Morinaga. Miyamoto went 5-8 with a 3.87 ERA in 1967, but he only pitched 2 games in 1968. He had a 6.75 ERA in 12 appearances in 1969, and he was turned into a full-time reliever.

The Hyogo native pitched 38 games with a 3.09 ERA in 1970, and he went 6-2 with a 2.53 ERA in 1971. Miyamoto then recorded a 4.65 ERA in 34 games in 1972, but he only had 12 appearances with a 4.50 ERA in 1973. He was sent to the Nankai Hawks, and Miyamoto's ERA was 2.19 in 36 appearances with 4 saves in 1974. He announced his retirement after that season, and he was the pitching coach for the Hawks in 1975 and 1979 and for their minors team from 1976 to 1978 and in 1981. Miyamoto returned to the Carp as pitching coach from 1989 to 1990 and for their minor league team from 1991 to 1992. He also scouted for the Carp, signing Kenta Maeda and Yoshikazu Kura.

Overall, Miyamoto was 21-18 with a 3.44 ERA, struck out 249 and pitched 495 innings in 10 seasons in NPB.
