Biographical Information[edit]

Yasuo Takiuchi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 10 years.

Takiuchi signed with the Nishitetsu Lions in 1954, and he only got 13 at-bats combined in his first two seasons. He played 88 games with a .179/.236/.276 batting line as an infield utility man in 1956, and he hit .190/.209/.238 in 85 games in 1957. Takiuchi continued struggling at the plate in 1958 as his batting line was .199/.251/.295, then he went 9-for-87 in 1959. He improved to .249/.304/.413 in 81 games in 1960, and it was the only season in his career that his batting average was over .200. Takiuchi played 91 games with a .185/.226/.225 batting line in 1961, and he hit .188/.257/.250 in 78 games in 1962. He was 3-for-26 in 1963, and he announced his retirement.

He became Nishitetsu's fielding coach from 1966 to 1967, from 1972 to 1974 and in 1976, and he coached their minors team from 1964 to 1965, from 1968 to 1971, in 1975 and from 1977 to 1981. He was also the fielding coach for the Kintetsu Buffaloes from 1985 to 1988 and for their minors team from 1982 to 1984. He then became the minor league manager for the Buffaloes from 1989 to 1992.

Overall, Takiuchi hit .189/.244/.275 with 199 hits and 13 homers in 10 seasons in NPB.
