Biographical Information

Yasunori Ito was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 5th round of the 1970 NPB draft, and he only got 20 at-bats combined for the top team in his first five seasons. He did lead the Western League in homers and RBI in 1974. Ito recorded a .193/.281/.509 batting line in 65 plate appearances over 73 games in 1976 (pinch-hitting most of the time), and he struggled more as his batting line fell to .191/.304/.298 in 1977. Ito then played a career-high 93 games with a .217/.317/.382 batting line in 181 PA as a backup OF/1B in 1978, and he improved to .284/.363/.519 in 91 plate appearances in 1979. His batting line was .209/.254/.269 in 1980, and he was released. The Nankai Hawks signed him, and Ito was 0-for-3 in 11 games in 1981 then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Ito hit .218/.305/.384 with 94 hits and 15 homers in 432 at-bats over 9 seasons in NPB, showing good power but not enough contact.
