Biographical Information[edit]

Yasunari Takagi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.

Takagi was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 2nd round of the 1999 NPB draft, and he allowed 10 runs in 6 1/3 innings in 2001. He went 3-3 with a 2.56 ERA in 2002, and he had a 2-7 record with a 4.87 ERA in 2004 after staying in the minors for a year. Takagi was then assigned to the Orix Buffaloes, and he slumped to 1-3 with a 6.23 ERA in 2005. He had a 3.20 ERA in 21 games in 2006, and he went 1-2 with a 6.68 ERA for the West Oahu CaneFires in the winter. Takagi had his career year in 2007, and he notched 8 holds with a 2.62 ERA in 54 appearances.

However, Takagi's ERA rose to 8.80 in 10 games in 2008, and he pitched 6 games with a 4.95 ERA in 2009. The Buffaloes then traded him to the Yomiuri Giants for Hiroshi Kisanuki, and he had a 1.09 ERA in 21 appearances in 2010. Takagi notched 12 holds with a 3.72 ERA in 46 games in 2011, and he went 3-1 with a 1.44 ERA and 6 holds in 2012. He completed 1 1/3 shutout innings in the 2012 Nippon Series Game 3, and the Giants beat the Nippon Ham Fighters in 6 games. Takagi only pitched one more game for the top team before he announced his retirement in 2014.

Overall, Takagi was 18-26 with 32 holds and a 3.64 ERA, struck out 267 and pitched 368 1/3 innings in 12 seasons in NPB.
