Biographical Information[edit]

Yasuhiro Kawabata played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Kawabata was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 2nd round of the 1985 NPB draft, and he allowed 6 runs in 2 1/3 innings in 1986. He was 5-3 with a 2.76 ERA in 1987, and he went 4-4 with a 4.09 ERA in 1988. Kawabata pitched a shutout inning in the 1988 Nippon Series Game 4, and the Seibu Lions beat the Dragons in 5 games. He had a 7-1 record with a 2.85 ERA in 1989, and he went 5-3 with a 3.00 ERA for the Vero Beach Dodgers that season. Kawabata slumped to 1-4 with a 5.09 ERA in 1990, and the Dragons traded him to the Orix BlueWave for Toyozo Minamimure. He recorded a 5.50 ERA in 17 relief outings in 1991, and he went 5-6 with 4 saves and a 4.50 ERA in 32 games in 1992. Kawabata notched 2 saves with a 2-4 record and a 2.88 ERA in 28 appearances in 1993, but he never reached the top team again before he announced his retirement in 1996.

Overall, Kawabata was 26-22 with a 3.83 ERA, struck out 306 and pitched 442 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
