Biographical Information[edit]
William Renfro pitched for the Memphis Eclipses of the Southern League of Colored Base Ballists in 1886 before joining the Binghamton Crickets of the International Association in 1887. He was one of a number of black players to appear in the Association that year, along with others like Frank Grant and Robert Higgins. He had a 2-4, 5.24 record but hit well, going 8 for 25 with a triple and 7 runs. Renfro went on to pitch for a number of black semipro clubs in Illinois following his minor league career.
Baseball Reference also lists him as having been with the Sacramento team in the California State League in 1883.
