Biographical Information[edit]

Wataru Takagi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Takagi was drafted by the Seibu Lions in the first round of the development phase in the 2017 NPB draft, and he hit .278/.348/.448 in 75 games in the NPB Farm Leagues in 2018. He crushed 12 homers with a .256/.302/.453 batting line in 2019, and he also debuted on June 6 as a pinch-runner; that was his only at-bat for the top team. Takagi blasted 9 homers with a .236/.338/.429 batting line in the minors in 2020, and he went 7-for-40 with the big club. He then hit .252/.346/.453 with 12 homers in 2021, but he struggled again with the top team as he had a 1-for-15 record. Takagi recorded a .274/.348/.532 batting line with 15 homers in 2022, and he led the Western League in homers, two ahead of Yu Matsumoto. He also tied for 7th with 16 doubles. He went 4-for-36 with the major team, and he was 3-for-19 there in 2023. Takagi was hitless in 7 at-bats in 2024, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Takagi hit .127/.175/.212 with 15 hits in 6 seasons in NPB. The outfielder had batted .257 and slugged .438 on the farm.
