Biographical Information[edit]

Wataru Hiyane played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Hiyane hit .282 with a Best Nine award and a batting title in his college career. He was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 3rd round of the 2011 NPB draft, and he went 12-for-44 in 2012. He also hit .297/.331/.324 with 22 steals in the minors, and he was 3rd in steals in the Eastern League (between Mitsugu Ishikawa and Daisuke Nakai). Hiyane hit .250/.314/.314 with 14 steals in 2013, and he recorded a .232/.267/.264 batting line in 2014. He then played 84 games with a .230/.300/.301 batting line in 2015, and he hit .230/.276/.294 with 8 steals in 2016. Hiyane played 35 games with a 5-for-23 record in 2017, and he had a .310/.409/.420 batting line with 26 steals in the minors. He ranked 2nd in steals, 2 behind Hirohito Shimai. Hiyane only got 2 at-bats for the top team in 2018, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Hiyane hit .236/.292/.292 with 162 hits and 4 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
