Biographical Information

Hirohito Shimai was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the 5th round of the 2012 NPB draft, but he stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues in his first five seasons. He was 2nd in steals in Eastern League with 26 in 2015 (1 behind Shuta Tonosaki), and he led the league with 28 steals in 2017. Shimai played 49 games with 14 runs and 6 steals for the big club in 2018, and he was mainly used as a pinch-runner so he only got 9 at-bats. Shimai only appeared in 10 games in 2019, and he announced his retirement.
