Biographical Information[edit]

Following his high school career at Saugus High School in Santa Clarita, CA, Walt White was an All-Western State Conference selection at College of the Canyons. He then transferred to Sonoma State University and was the then-Cossacks' starting shortstop in the 1993 and 1994 seasons.

The Florida Marlins selected White in the 34th round of the 1994 Amateur Draft out of Sonoma State. White spent 5 seasons in the Marlins' farm system, reaching Double-A in 1998 with the Portland Sea Dogs. White was then dealt to the Arizona Diamondbacks following the 1998 season and started 1999 in Double-A playing in 13 games with the El Paso Diablos before moving to the Triple-A Tucson Sidewinders. White bounced between the two levels through the 2001 season before retiring as a player at the age of 29.

White began his coaching career at his alma mater Sonoma State where he held many roles as an assistant for 15 seasons including associate head coach and recruiting coordinator. In 2008 White helped lead Sonoma State to the NCAA Division II College World Series. In the same year he was inducted into the Sonoma State Hall of Fame.

Walt White was hired as head coach of California State University, Monterey Bay before the 2011 season. In his first season he broke the school's records for total wins, winning percentage and conference wins.
