Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher Victor Santos was originally signed as an international amateur free agent out of the Dominican Republic by the Philadelphia Phillies on November 14, 2016.

He began his pro career in 2017 with the DSL Phillies Red, going 4-2, 2.57, then played for the GCL Phillies East in 2018 and the Lakewood BlueClaws in 2019. He was mainly a starting pitcher those three years, going 5-10, 4.02 and pitching 105 1/3 innings in 2019. He then had to sit out the 2020 season when the minor leagues were shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic.

When he returned in 2021, he had a year filled with moves as he started off with the Jersey Shore BlueClaws of the High-A East, the new incarnation of his last team following the 2021 Minor League Reorganization, but now at a higher level. After 9 outings mainly in relief, he was promoted to the AA Reading Fightin Phils, where he was back to starting, and on July 17th, he was traded to the Boston Red Sox and moved to the Portland Sea Dogs, staying in the Double-A Northeast. His combined line between the three teams was 7-4, 2.40 in 23 games, with 13 starts and 85 strikeouts in 86 1/3 innings. In 2022, after pitching winter ball for the Leones del Escogido in the Dominican League, he had another mid-season promotion, starting off with Portland and finishing the year with the Worcester Red Sox of the International League. 25 of his 28 appearances were as a starter, and he went 10-12, 4.97, logging 145 innings. In 2023, he did not pitch at all in the U.S. minors, but was active both before and after the season with Escogido.

On December 8, 2023, he was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals alongside Nick Robertson, who had made his big league debut during the season, in return for OF Tyler O'Neill.
