Biographical Information[edit]
Japanese-Korean Tsuyoshi Ueda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.
Ueda was drafted by the Yakult Swallows in the 6th round of the 2006 NPB draft, and he spent his first three seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got an at-bat for the big club in 2009. He was 9-for-42 in 2010, and he went 8-for-30 in 2011. Ueda also hit .281/.373/.355 with 55 steals in the minors in '11, and he led the Eastern League in steals. However, he missed most of the 2012 season due to shoulder injury, and he had a .257/.313/.318 batting line in 50 games. Ueda secured the starting center fielder spot of the Swallows in 2013, and he collected 18 steals with a .257/.323/.336 batting line in 112 games. He was 6th in steals in the Central League, between Sho Aranami and Ryosuke Kikuchi.
The Okayama native slumped to .210/.268/.266 with 16 steals in 2014, and he was 8th in steals (between Masahiro Araki and Tetsuto Yamada). Ueda only played 82 games with a .263/.313/.306 batting line in 2015, and he hit .176/.263/.235 in the 2015 Nippon Series. The Swallows lost to the SoftBank Hawks in 5 games. He was mainly used as defensive replacement in 2016, and he went 18-for-82 in 72 appearances. Ueda hit .234/.272/.299 in 2017, and he had a .224/.298/.318 batting line in 102 games in 2018. Ueda then recorded a .235/.259/.235 batting line in 56 games in 2019, but he slumped to .125/.153/.143 in 2020 and he announced his retirement.
Overall, Ueda hit .236/.291/.298 with 345 hits and 9 homers in 12 seasons in NPB. He stole 75 bases in 96 tries.
