Biographical Information

Reliever Troy Kent pitched in the minors from 1988 to 1993, peaking briefly (11 IP) at Triple-A. He was taken by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 46th round of the 1988 amateur draft and began his pro career that year.

He had only one season with a winning percentage greater than .500, and that was when he pitched just 14 2/3 innings over 6 games for the Spartanburg Phillies in 1989, going 1-0. Otherwise, he went 1-7 in 1988, 2-6 (but with a 3.01 ERA) in 1990, 7-13 (3.24 ERA) in 1991, 2-6 (3.03 ERA) in 1992 and 1-1 in 1993. In 1991, he tied Jon Henry, Rick Odekirk and Royal Thomas for the California League lead in losses, though he led the league in games finished (50) outright. He tied Oscar Rivas for second in appearances (62), behind Francisco Alcantara's 64.

Overall, he went 14-33 with a 3.48 ERA in 217 games (13 starts). In 359 innings, he allowed 144 walks and 354 hits (1.387 WHIP), while striking out 290 batters.
