Toshiya Satoh has played in Nippon Pro Baseball.
Satoh represented Japan in the 2018 Haarlemse Honkbalweek. He was drafted by the Chiba Lotte Marines in the 2nd round of the 2019 NPB draft, and he hit .228/.296/.316 in 60 games in 2020.[1] He played 62 games with a .205/.284/.386 batting line in 2021, then he hit .214/.260/.315 in 2022 as their starting catcher. Satoh struggled at the plate in 2023 as his batting line was .218/.289/.326, and he was selected into the 2024 NPB All-Star Game. He went 1-for-2 with a single against Kohei Morihara in Game 1, and he shined in Game 2. Satoh was 5-for-6 with 3 doubles and a triple, driving in 2 runs and tied the All-Star record for most hits, doubles and extra-base hits in a game. He was named the Game 2 MVP. He ended up hitting .278/.326/.363 in 2024, and he was 4th in batting in the Pacific League (between Tomoya Mori and Ryoya Kurihara). He won his first Best Nine award as the circuit's top catcher.
After his gorgeous season, Satoh made it onto Japan's roster for the 2024 Premier 12. He started against Cuba, but he was hitless in 2 at-bats, though he drove in a run. Satoh was then named Japan's starting DH versus the Dominican Republic, and he hit a leadoff single against Henry Henry in the second inning. He added a RBI single against Henry in the third inning, and he collected a RBI double against Diego Castillo. In the super round against Chinese Taipei, Satoh was Japan's starting first baseman, and he went 2-for-4 with 2 singles (against Kuo-Hao Chiang and Chih-Hsuan Wang). Japan won Silver in the event.[2] Satoh struggled in 2025, and rookie Ryusei Terachi took his spot. He only played 68 games with the top team, and his batting line fell to .207/.285/.308.
