Biographical Information[edit]

Toru Tsuchiya played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.

Tsuchiya signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1948, and he hit .215/.278/.256 in his first season. He then jumped to the Chunichi Dragons, and he crushed 6 homers with a .217/.259/.334 batting line in 1949. Tsuchiya recorded a .221/.289/.279 batting line in 1950, and he improved to .279/.329/.397 in 91 games in 1951. He was 7th in triples in the Central League, tied with Michinori Tsubouchi, Wally Yonamine, Tokuzo Harada and Kazuo Satake. However, Tsuchiya missed the entire 1952 season, and his batting line fell to .194/.254/.274 in 1953. He struggled again as his batting line was .147/.183/.176 in 1954, and he announced his retirement after he went 6-for-47 in 1955. He later became a broadcaster for TBS from 1958 to 1967.

Overall, Tsuchiya hit .224/.278/.309 with 267 hits and 13 homers in 7 seasons in NPB.
