Biographical Information[edit]
Toru Kawagoe signed with the Nankai Hawks in 1988, and he only got 2 at-bats for the big club combined in his first six seasons. When Koichiro Yoshinaga was injured in 1995, Kawagoe shared the starting catching spot with Koji Bonishi and hit .253/.299/.308 in 36 games. He recorded a .235/.271/.284 batting line in 1996, and he went 12-for-50 in 1997. However, Kawagoe only got 10 more at-bats for the top team, and he announced his retirement in 2001. He was the minor league battery coach for the Hawks in 2002 and managed the Kyoto Asto Dreams in the Japan Women's Baseball League.
