Biographical Information[edit]
Toru Ikenoue played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.
Ikenoue was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the 3rd round of the 1972 NPB draft, and he spent his first three seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues. He had a 6.47 ERA in 14 games in 1976, but he only pitched 8 more games for the top team before he was turned into a position player in 1980. He had led the Western League with 14 wins in 1978. Ikenoue was 5-for-23 in 1981, and he went 4-for-18 in 1982. He became Nankai's starting first baseman in 1983, and he hit .265/.329/.375 with a Pacific League-leading 18 hit-by-pitches. Ikenoue played 94 games with a .255/.322/.348 batting line in 1984, and he improved to .301/.372/.389 in 1985. However, he only played 7 games in 1986 due to injuries, and the Hawks released him. He signed with the Taiyo Whales, and he had a .268/.311/.361 batting line in 1987. Ikenoue hit .273/.333/.477 in 44 games in 1988, and he announced his retirement. He later became a scout, signing Hiroki Kokubo, Tadahito Iguchi, Munenori Kawasaki, Takashi Toritani, Yuya Ando, Atsushi Nomi and Kai Ueda.
Overall, Ikenoue hit .269/.331/.373 with 256 hits and 15 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
