Biographical Information[edit]

Torao Ooka played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 3 years.

Ooka played for the Yahata steel of the industrial league, and he was 37 years old when he signed with the Daiei Stars in 1949. Ooka crushed 26 homers with a .272/.341/.498 batting line and 111 RBI, and he was the only rookie who had more than 100 RBI in NPB history. He led the Japan Professional Baseball League in strikeouts, and he was 8th in homers (between Tokuji Iida and Shigeya Iijima) and 4th in RBI (between Michio Nishizawa and Hiroshi Oshita). When the JPBL split into two leagues in 1950, Ooka signed with the Shochiku Robins and he hit .281/.346/.502 with 34 homers. He was 5th in homers in the Central League (tied with Isamu Fujii) and 9th in RBI (between Masato Monzen and Kiyoshi Sugiura). He went 3-for-26 in the 1950 Nippon Series, and the Robins lost to the Mainichi Orions in 6 games. Ookawas 16-for-66 in 1951, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Ooka hit .275/.343/.492 with 299 hits and 61 homers in 3 seasons in NPB.
