Tomoyuki Sekiguchi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years
Sekiguchi was drafted by the Hankyu Braves in the first round of the 1978 NPB draft after they lost the lottery for the rights to Isamu Kida. He was 3-6 with a 5.03 ERA in 1980, then he went 6-4 with 12 saves and a 4.47 ERA in 41 games in 1981. He was 2nd in saves in the Pacific League, 13 behind Yutaka Enatsu. Sekiguchi was 2-2 with a 6.48 ERA in 1982, and he only pitched 4 games for the big club in the next four seasons. He came back in 1987, and he had a solid 1.26 ERA in 24 games. Sekiguchi recorded a 1.83 ERA in 21 games in 1988, but his ERA rose to 4.06 in 35 appearances in 1989. He only pitched 6 games in 1990, and he announced his retirement. He passed away in 2000 due to a traffic accident.
Overall, Sekiguchi was 12-15 with 13 saves a 4.18 ERA, struck out 144 and pitched 329 2/3 innings in 9 seasons in NPB.
