Biographical Information[edit]
Teruo Tabe played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 5 years. His brother is Japanese Baseball Hall of Famer Takeo Tabe.
Tabe signed with the Nishi-Nihon Pirates in 1950, and he hit .273/.374/.465 with 16 homers in his first season. The Pirates then merged with the Nishitetsu Lions, and Tabe had a .241/.391/.340 batting line in 1951. He also set the Pacific League record as he drew a walk in 16 straight games, and he held it until Yuki Yanagita broke it in 2016. Tabe crushed homers with a .261/.333/.432 batting line in 1952, and he slumped to .216/.273/.307 in 1953. He then recorded a .239/.310/.299 batting line in 1954, and he announced his retirement. He later coached Shibaura Institute of Technology.
Overall, Tabe hit .251/.343/.393 with 319 hits and 35 homers in 5 seasons in NPB.
