Biographical Information[edit]
Taylor Fortney played baseball at Bethany College for two years before transferring to Texas Tech University where he completed his undergraduate degree in Exercise and Sports Science in 2014. He immediately jumped into a graduate program at Tech and completed a master's degree in Kinesiology in 2018. As an undergraduate, Fortney had done some student counseling which translated into a full-time position of Senior Academic Counselor in 2015. He remained in this position through August 2019.[1] [2]
At some point before 2018, Fortney joined the Lubbock Baseball Academy and coached travel ball teams. He left his counseling position in 2019 to become the Director of Player Development at the Academy. Fortney retained this position through 2023.
The Chicago Cubs hired Fortney in 2024 as a development coach for the Iowa Cubs. He served in the same capacity with the Knoxville Smokies in 2025. Fortney returned to the Iowa Cubs in 2026 as a hitting coach.
