Biographical Information[edit]

Takuzo Ueda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 11 years.

Ueda was drafted by the Nankai Hawks and Nishitetsu Lions in the first round of the 1966 NPB draft, and the Hawks won the lottery for the rights to him. He only pitched one game in 1967, then he recorded a 5.46 ERA in 23 appearances in 1968. Ueda's ERA was 3.27 in 6 games in 1969, and he went 3-2 with a 3.18 ERA in 1970. He was 2-4 with a 3.79 ERA in 1971, but he struggled in 1972 as his ERA rose to 6.55 in 8 games. Ueda bounced back soon, and he had a solid 2.25 ERA in 32 relief outings in 1974. He pitched 20 games with a 2.09 ERA in 1975, then the Hawks traded him to the Hanshin Tigers for cash. Ueda was 3-0 with a 4.20 ERA in 1976, but he only pitched 4 games in 1977 then the Tigers traded him back to the Hawks for cash. He had a 5.00 ERA in 9 games in 1978, and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Ueda was 13-13 with a 3.41 ERA, struck out 194 and pitched 393 1/3 innings in 11 seasons in NPB.
