Biographical Information[edit]

Takumi Ejima played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 16 years.

Ejima was drafted by the Chunichi Dragons in the 2nd round of the 1967 NPB draft, and he hit .153/.189/.287 in 71 games in his first season. The outfielder then crushed a career-high 13 homers with a .219/.243/.374 batting line in 1969, and he had a .231/.275/.363 batting line with 9 homers in 1970. Ejima struggled again in 1971 as his batting line fell to .196/.270/.291, and he played 93 games with a .192/.263/.298 batting line in 1972. The Dragons then traded him to the Lotte Orions for Osamu Hirose, and he hit .195/.313/.220 in 92 games in 1973.

The Wakayama native improved to .283/.313/.391 in 51 at-bats in 1974, and he was 1-for-8 in the 1974 Nippon Series. The Orions beat the Dragons in 6 games. Ejima then crushed 4 homers with a .276/.313/.395 batting line in 1975, and he hit .239/.258/.443 in 50 games in 1976. He slumped to .207/.214/.280 in 1977, and his batting line was .216/.247/.302 in 1988. He bounced back in 1989 as he hit .293/.327/.500 with 6 homers, but his batting line then fell to .170/.200/.319 in 1970. Ejima batted .281/.300/.412 in 1971, and he had a .258/.290/.424 batting line in 1972. He went 0-for-8 in 1973, and he announced his retirement. He was the batting coach for the minors team of Lotte from 1984 to 1985, and he coached the Chungbo Pintos in 1987.

Overall, Ejima hit .223/.264/.354 with 473 hits and 56 homers in 16 seasons in NPB.
