Biographical Information[edit]

Takeshi Ueda played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 12 years.

Ueda signed with the Yomiuri Giants in 1964, and he spent his first six seasons in the NPB Farm Leagues; he only got 54 at-bats combined for the big club. He also hit .182/.421/.242 in 30 games for the AIL Dodgers in 1965. Ueda recorded a .262/.348/.361 batting line in 79 games in 1971, and he was 2-for-3 in the 1971 Nippon Series with a 2-run double against Mitsuhiro Adachi in Game 7. The Giants beat the Hankyu Braves in 5 games. He then slumped to .167/.296/.233 in 1972, and he soon bounced back with a .228/.284/.297 batting line in 93 games in 1973. Ueda was 3-for-10 in the 1973 Nippon Series with a homer against Shinichi Yamauchi in Game 2, and the Giants beat the Nankai Hawks in 5 games.

The Hyogo native recorded a .266/.338/.408 batting line in 1974, but he struggled in 1975 as he hit .188/.281/.227 in 72 games. He went 1-for-21 in 61 appearances in 1976, and he recorded a .286/.333/.429 batting line in 1977. He played 49 games with a 2-for-24 record in 1978, and he announced his retirement. Ueda became the fielding coach for the Giants from 1979 to 1980 and from 1987 to 1992, and he coached their minors team from 1981 to 1986 and from 1993 to 1995. He later became a scout, signing Koji Uehara, Yoshinobu Takahashi, Shinnosuke Abe, Tetsuya Utsumi and Yoshiyuki Kamei.

Overall, Ueda hit .224/.306/.316 with 215 hits and 15 homers in 12 seasons in NPB.
