Biographical Information[edit]
Takayuki Takaguchi played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 7 years.
Takaguchi was drafted by the Nippon Ham Fighters in the 6th round of the 2005 NPB draft, and he only got 7 at-bats for the big club in his first two seasons. He got some chances after shortstop Makoto Kaneko was injured in 2008 (though he wound up seeing more action at 3B than SS), and he played 74 games with a .216/.272/.293 batting line. Takaguchi stayed in the NPB Farm Leagues for nearly the entire 2009 season, and he hit .174/.190/.304 in 2010. The Fighters then traded him with Kazunori Yamamoto to the Chiba Lotte Marines for Tomohisa Nemoto, and he hit .045/.087/.045 in 38 games (24 PA) in 2010. Takaguchi was picked by the Yomiuri Giants as the compensation for losing free agent Saburo Omura, but he only had 13 more at-bats before he announced his retirement in 2013. He then became the minor league fielding coach for the Orix Buffaloes from 2020 to 2021, and he also scouted for the Fighters. Soka University named him their assistant coach in 2023.
Overall, Takaguchi hit .177/.228/.258 with 50 hits in 7 seasons in NPB.
