Biographical Information[edit]

Tadayoshi Iwasaki played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 14 years.

Iwasaki was drafted by the Tokyo Orions in the 2nd round of the 1966 NPB draft, and he spent his first six seasons primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues. He also played for the AIL Giants in 1968. The outfielder never had more than 60 at-bats in a season until he hit .295/.308/.390 in 111 plate appearances over 88 games in 1973. Iwasaki then recorded a .273/.337/.340 batting line in 1974, and he went 6-for-16 in the 1974 Nippon Series; the Orions beat the Chunichi Dragons in 6 games. He was their main right fielder in 1975, and he played 109 games with a .250/.308/.328 batting line. Iwasaki had a .252/.312/.330 batting line in 1976, but he slumped to .214/.224/.289 in 1977 so Leron Lee and Jinten Haku took his spot. He struggled again in 1978 as his batting line was .193/.235/.224, and he was released in 1980 after he went 4-for-30 in 1979. He signed with the Nippon Ham Fighters in 1980, but he went 5-for-23 and he announced his retirement.

Overall, Iwasaki hit .245/.290/.318 with 324 hits and 15 homers in 14 seasons in NPB.
