Biographical Information[edit]

Tadatoshi Saida played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 6 years.

Saida signed with the Daiei Unions in 1957, and he hit .201/.277/.306 in his first season. The Unions then merged with the Mainichi Orions, and Saida went to the Kintetsu Buffaloes. He recorded a .256/.318/.358 batting line in 1958, and he played 81 games with a .258/.346/.364 batting line in 1959. Saida crushed 4 homers with a .244 .315 .353 batting line in 1960, then he batted .248/.302/.364 in 1961. However, he slumped to .180/.240/.202 in 1962, and he announced his retirement. Saida later became an umpire of the Pacific League from 1963 to 1990, and he was the crew chief of the PL from 1982 to 1989. He worked 13 Nippon Series (1970, 1972, 1976, 1974, 1976, 1977, 1978, 1979, 1980, 1982, 1983, 1985 and 1988) and 7 All-Star Games (1967, 1970, 1975, 1979, 1982, 1985 and 1988).

Overall, Takagi hit .238/.309/.337 with 225 hits and 17 homers in 6 seasons in NPB.
