Biographical Information[edit]

Steven Jaschinski umpired his first major league game on May 16, 2025 as a call-up from AAA. He went on to work 20 games that first season. Appropriately, his major league debut came at the Rogers Centre in Toronto, ON, less than 50 miles from his birthplace of Burlington, ON. He was only the third active Canadian umpire at the time, after Stu Scheurwater and Alex Tosi.

He made his umpiring debut in the Intercounty Baseball League. He claims that he has been umpiring amateur games since he was 9 years old, and he received his certification as an umpire from Baseball Canada in 2010. This gave him a leg up on other candidates when he attended Minor League umpire camp in Vero Beach, FL in 2017. He was one of the top finishers in his class, which landed him his first job in the minors, in the Gulf Coast League, in 2017. By the end of that year, he was working games in the Northwest League and in the Midwest League the next season. He worked his first major league spring training games in 2024. He has served as an instructor in Baseball Canada umpire camps since 2017, and is also a certified hockey referee.
