A biography of Sled Allen's son Terry says that Terry was born when Sled was 60. Sled was a player-manager in the Texas League after his big-league days, and also promoted wrestling matches and music events. He brought in acts like Elvis Presley, Little Richard, and Hank Williams. Sled's wife was a pianist, and both Sled and his wife were more open to integration than most Texans.
Allen played for Houston from 1911-1916.
